Vision

Water is central to quality of life, sustainability, progress.

At RAAEY, we recognize that water is essential to our daily lives, to the environment we inhabit, and to our future development. We strive to provide services that meet the needs of today while ensuring sustainability and quality for tomorrow.

Goals

Access for all

Equitable access to water services is a fundamental principle. Every citizen, regardless of geographical location or social circumstances, must be assured of the supply of clean and safe water as a basic necessity of daily life.

High standards of quality

Water services must meet strict criteria that ensure the protection of public health as well as protection of the environment.

Affordability

Water services must remain affordable to ensure access for all social groups.

The main areas for which the Water Sector of RAAEY has oversight are the following:
Water supply

Water supply to populations in urban centres and rural regions, as well as to support broader economic functions, including industrial production and commercial enterprise.

Sewerage

Collection, processing, and safe disposition of wastewater at Wastewater Treatment Facilities (WWTFs).

Irrigation

Water supply for irrigation of agricultural land and livestock farming purposes.

Responsibilities

RAAEY ensures that water service providers operate with transparency, responsibility, and for the benefit of citizens.

Our main responsibilities include the following:

Decisions

The Water Sector of RAAEY shapes the operational framework for water supply providers, making decisions that reinforce transparency and advance the quality of water services.

Sanctions

When rules are violated, RAAEY intervenes through regulatory oversight mechanisms and enforces sanctions to safeguard legality and ensure consumer protection.

Expert Opinions / Recommendations

The Water Sector actively participates in policy-making, submitting proposals and recommendations for the improvement of the regulatory framework and the operating procedures of water services providers.

Other Responsibilities

Through its actions, which range from data collection to international collaboration, RAAEY contributes to the enhancement of knowledge and forward planning in the water sector.

Drinking Water

Quality & Daily Consumption

RAAEY coordinates with other state agencies to secure consumers’ rights to safe and adequate supplies of drinking water.

Our obligation is to implement nationwide standardised procedures that follow regulatory standards in order to secure the supply of safe drinking water throughout the country, for large cities, the islands, rural areas, and the remotest communities.

In its natural state, water is rarely of a quality suitable for human consumption. Ensuring the required quality for drinking water depends not only on the specific stages of processing, but also on maintaining proper conditions throughout the distribution and supply systems.

Societies everywhere around the world need safe and adequate supplies of drinking water, whether in urban centres, rural areas, or island communities.

Water plays a vital role in people’s lives, across all sectors from health to the economy. Maintaining and supporting good water quality protects not only public health, but the future of our water resources in general.

Quality drinking water

The water we consume must be safe for human health.
RAAEY ensures that all standards and rules for the protection of consumers and of the environment are complied with.
Consumers are able to make initial assessments of the water they drink based on sensory characteristics such as taste, odour, and turbidity (cloudiness).
