Responsibilities

RAAEY is responsible for ensuring that water service providers operate with transparency and accountability in the public interest.

Key responsibilities:

Decisions

Approval of E.YD.AP. S.A. and E.Y.A.TH. S.A. water service tariffs
Issuance of management adequacy certification for water service providers
Evaluation and approval of requests for tariff adjustments submitted by water service providers
Issuance of standardized regulations for the water service providers regarding water supply, sewage and irrigation
Authority to request amendments to the applicable regulations of water service providers

Sanctions

Imposition of fines on water service providers for:

Violations related to the costing and pricing of water service
Failure to submit required data within the prescribed deadlines
Failure to remit the collected environmental tax

Expert Opinions / Recommendations

Recommendation to the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Ministry of Interior regarding the restructuring of the Greek water service sector
Recommendation to the Advisory Committee on the costing and pricing methodology for water services
Recommendation to the Ministry of Environment and Energy on measures to ensure the coordinated implementation of provisions relating to water service providers
Participation in legislative drafting procedures
Recommendation for amendments to the General Water Services Plans (GWSPs)

Other Responsibilities

Oversight of how water service providers implement the rules and principles for water services management
Monitoring of the application of the current methodology for the costing and pricing of water services
Preparing and submitting a report annually to the Ministry of Environment and Energy, informed by the annual plans of water service providers
Oversight of the implementation of water services concession contracts with EYDAP S.A. and EYATH S.A.
Assessment, investigation and resolution of complaints
Arbitration procedures
Collection of data required for the fulfillment of responsibilities
Participation in international cooperation initiatives
